WVAP Aligns with CAP to Oppose House Bill that May Affect Pathology Practices

Thursday, March 23, 2017

A West Virginia House Bill 2327 was introduced in the state legislature of February 10, and it proposed adding new disclosure requirement for health care providers, hospitals and insurers.  The bill is intended to protect consumers from out-of-network health care “surprise bills” by requiring providers to inform the patient of the estimated cost of non-emergent services, prior to providing such services.  The bill may negatively impact turnaround time of pathology specimens, given the added time it would take one to comply with the required patient notification.
